Tom has a long and successful research interest in the structure and design of coiled-coil proteins. Recently, work in his lab has been focussed on the structure and function of 'eukaryotic-like' serine/threonine kinases from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Home page: http://ucxray.berkeley.edu
Rachel Klevit
Rachel's research is directed towards understanding molecular recognition with an emphasis on protein-protein interactions important in human disease. Her lab has worked particularly on BRCA1, the breast cancer susceptibility protein and on protein ubiquitination in general. Home page: http://depts.washington.edu/biowww/faculty/klevit.html
Jenny Martin
Jenny is one of the Australian pioneers in high-throughput structural biology. Her research has focussed on bacterial disulfide bond isomerases, mammalian macrophage proteins and the function of SNARES in vesicle trafficking. Home page: http://www.imb.uq.edu.au/index.html?id=11702
Gottfried Otting
Gottfried is one of Australia's leading NMR spectroscopists, and research in his group has focussed on new methods in protein NMR spectroscopy, including the use of lanthanide labelling and cell-free protein expression. Home page: http://rsc.anu.edu.au/~go/
Ted Baker
Ted is currently the Director of the Maurice Wilkins Centre for Molecular Biodiscovery (http://mauricewilkinscentre.org) and a Distinguished University Professor in Structural Biology. He has championed structural biology in New Zealand, and recently has been a strong proponent of Structural Genomics. Home page: http://lsb.sbs.auckland.ac.nz/users/ted/index.html
Richard Kingston
Richard is an HRC Hercus Fellow whose research focusses on the replication, assembly and organisation of enveloped RNA viruses, including the Rous Sarcoma Virus (closely related to HIV) and paramyxoviruses such as measles and mumps. Home page: http://persephone.sbs.auckland.ac.nz/richard/lab/
Daniela Stock
Daniela is Head of the Structural and Computational Biology Division at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research institute. She has a longstanding interest in the structure and function of molecular rotary motors, in particular proton-translocating ATPases. Her group at the Victor Chang is working on membrane protein structure determination and method development. Home page: http://www.victorchang.com.au/research/
Walter Chazin
Walter is Director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Structural Biology. His group uses NMR, X-ray crystallography and other biophysical techniques to study both signal transduction by calcium binding proteins, and to investigate the processes of large protein assemblies such as those involved in DNA processing. Home page: http://structbio.vanderbilt.edu/chazin/
Vic Arcus
Vic has a joint appointment at the University of Waikato, and as head of AgResearch's Protein Engineering Laboratory. His laboratory studies proteins that regulate flowering, microbial toxin/antitoxin networks and fungal peptide synthetases using a range of techniques. He is also engineering new antibody mimics using phage display. Home page: http://sci.waikato.ac.nz/staff/biol/varcus
David Lambright
David heads a highly productive laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Medical School that is focussed on understanding the structural and molecular mechanisms of cell signalling and membrane trafficking. Using a broad range of experimental methods from diverse disciplines including biochemistry, biophysics, X-ray crystallography, and bioinformatics as well as molecular, cell, and systems biology, he has made significant contributions to understanding the regulation of membrane trafficking by Rab GTPases, phosphoinositide signalling, and the regulation of cell proliferation. Home page: http://www.umassmed.edu/bmp/faculty/lambright.cfm
Andrew Sutherland-Smith
Andrew heads a group at Massey University that is interested in the structure and function of cytoskeletal and muscle regulatory proteins. One particular approach is understanding how missense mutations associated with human disease alter protein conformation and/or activity. Home page: http://imbs.massey.ac.nz/Staff/sutherland_smith.htm
Jolon Dyer
Jolon is Team Leader of the Protein and Structure Team, within the Growth and Development Section at AgResearch. His research group specialises in fibrous protein biochemistry, proteomics and structural biology. Jolon recently received the AWI-DWI Excellence in Wool Science personal award in recognition of his cotributions. Current research includes the development of protocols to characterise fibrous proteins.
A joint session with Quest 2008 will include Terry Mulhern (Bio21, Melbourne) and Jonathon Backer (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), see the Quest 2008 page for details.
